The Hon'ble Chief Minister unveiled the new Information &
Communication Technology (ICT) Policy, with a vision to
capture 25 per cent share of Indian ICT production and create
three million jobs by the year 2011.
"Tamil Nadu shall be the ICT hub of South Asia by creating
a knowledge driven ecosystem, leveraging entrepreneurship
and promoting socially inclusive growth to achieve a
25 per cent production share of the Indian ICT industry,"
the Policy said, outlining the Vision 2011.
Tamil Nadu has an 11 per cent share at 5.7 billion Dollars of
the total Indian ICT production of 51 billion Dollars and
it hopes to sustain and improve its ICT performance in the
coming years and aspires to capture 25 per cent share of
Indian ICT production by 2011.
Achieving the vision of 25 per cent of India's ICT production
would create huge employment opportunities for the people
of the state, directly and indirectly. It was estimated that
a total of 0.8 million direct jobs and 2.2 million indirect jobs
would be created in the ICT sector, the Policy said.
The Policy provides special incentives for setting up
IT-ITES industries in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, besides special prizes
for those firms providing employment to the physically
challenged.
